Searching

Can I personalize my ToxPlanet search experience?

Yes. Using ToxPlanet’s MyEXPERT™ feature, you can personalize and customize the default view of your search results. By defining the collections that you wish to see in each product, you have the option of displaying only those collections and the corresponding results from them.

MyEXPERT functionality accommodates an unlimited number of different settings, with each setting acting as a filter to display selected content. By focusing searches to your “go to” collections (or those of your clients), it further streamlines the search process, allowing you to get the information you need faster, easier, and more effectively.

Can ToxPlanet help with data gaps?

Yes. This is possible using ToxPlanet’s proprietary Similar Compounds feature. At ToxPlanet, we recognize that data gaps are a problem for many chemical professionals and researchers. These gaps typically occur for 3 main reasons:

  • There is data for the chemical, but you cannot find it.
  • There is data for the chemical, but there are also some missing end points.
  • There is no data available for the chemical.

With Similar Compounds, the process of searching for chemical analogs is fully automated, allowing for instant identification of structurally-similar compounds. Leveraging PubChem structure content, and based on the Tanimoto coefficient, ToxPlanet’s Similar Compounds functionality not only quickly identifies these compounds, but also instantly provides access to the literature from the largest and most comprehensive information resource of its kind. What would typically involve multiple searches, while “bouncing” between websites, can be accomplished with just a few clicks using Similar Compounds.

How can I be sure my ToxPlanet search results are relevant?

Because each of ToxPlanet’s more than 9.4 million documents is carefully and thoroughly indexed to the chemical(s) covered within them, you can retrieve relevant information quickly and easily. Underlying this relevance is one of ToxPlanet’s hallmark features, the EXPERTIndex™.

When you conduct an EXPERTIndex search, results are consistent regardless of which synonym or chemical identifier is used. Results are those “about” a chemical versus ones simply containing the name. This yields a more fine-tuned search and results that are 100% relevant.

How does ToxPlanet facilitate the discovery process?

Content discovery – the process of finding and exploring information that one previously did not know existed – is an important and extremely valuable part of the information research process. With ToxPlanet, you can search all our content collections simultaneously. Our “encyclopedic” search approach, combined with our proprietary EXPERTIndex™ and unparalleled repository, means that with every search you will see content you expect to find, but also be delighted by discovering highly useful content that you were unaware existed. This includes a significant amount of information that cannot otherwise be found by searching the Internet or other information resources.

What are ToxPlanet’s search modes?

ToxPlanet’s products can be searched using seven different Search Modes, each with its own focus and means of searchability.

  • EXPERTIndex™ Search – Allows you to conduct focused searches using ToxPlanet’s proprietary index feature, containing more than 1 million unique substances, and with nearly 5 million terms and synonyms.
  • Full Text Search – Allows you to conduct Boolean (full-text) searches across the body/text of all of the documents found in the underlying collections.
  • MSDSonline® Advanced – Allows you to conduct more robust searches across all of the safety data sheets found in the MSDSonline collection.
  • TOXLINE® Special Advanced – Allows you to conduct Boolean (full-text) searches across the body/text of all of the documents found specifically in the TOXLINE Special collections.
  • REACH Registrations Advanced – Allows you to create focused searches across the official ECHA REACH Registrations Database.
